Which Countries Grab and Gojek Accept

Grab operates in eight Southeast Asian markets: Singapore (+65), Malaysia (+60), Thailand (+66), Indonesia (+62), the Philippines (+63), Vietnam (+84), Cambodia (+855), and Myanmar (+95). The signup country selector only lists those. A UK or US number is rejected before a code is ever sent, with a message that the region is not supported.

Gojek is narrower. It operates in Indonesia (+62), where it is the dominant app, and Singapore (+65), where it competes with Grab on rides. Gojek left Vietnam in September 2024 and its Thai operation merged into AirAsia's app in 2021, so a Vietnamese or Thai number no longer registers a Gojek account. The app checks the number's country code against that list at signup.

Both apps let you use the account across their regions once it exists. A Grab account registered on a Malaysian number works for a ride in Bangkok or Manila, with prices in local currency. A Gojek account registered on an Indonesian number works in Singapore. The number's country only has to be right at registration and at re-verification.

What Works on a Temp Number and What Does Not

Rides (GrabCar, GrabBike, GoRide, GoCar), food delivery (GrabFood, GoFood), parcel delivery (GrabExpress, GoSend), and the marts work on an account verified with a temp number, paid by card or cash. Card payment is the important part: adding a Visa or Mastercard needs a 3-D Secure code from your card issuer, not from Grab, so it is unaffected by the temp number.

GrabPay wallet activation, and in Indonesia OVO through Grab, requires KYC: a MyKad in Malaysia, an NRIC or FIN in Singapore, a KTP in Indonesia, a national ID or passport with a local address in the Philippines. GoPay in Indonesia needs a KTP selfie for the upgraded tier that allows transfers and larger balances. The basic GoPay tier can sometimes be topped up without KYC, but limits are low and the option varies by region. None of these checks are passed by a phone number, and a temp number does not change the outcome.

GrabPay is also the gate for a few extras: GrabRewards points on wallet payments, some GrabFood promotions restricted to wallet users, and cashless payment for GrabBike in some cities. Without it you lose those and keep everything else.

Which Country to Pick for Grab

Malaysia (+60) and the Philippines (+63) have the highest signup acceptance in our experience, because carrier delivery of Grab's OTP is reliable on Maxis, Celcom, Digi, Globe, and Smart ranges and the number pools are wide. Both are also among the cheaper countries per activation. Thailand (+66) on AIS, DTAC, and True ranges is close behind.

Singapore (+65) works well but costs more per activation because the pool is small; it is the choice if the account will be used mainly in Singapore, where a few merchants and some GrabFood promotions check the registered country. Indonesia (+62) works for both Grab and Gojek and is the obvious pick if you want both apps on one country.

Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar are valid for Grab but have thinner pools and, in Vietnam's case, stricter carrier filtering on application-to-person SMS, so codes are slower. Pick them only if you specifically need that country code. The country pages at /malaysia-phone-number, /philippines-phone-number, /thailand-phone-number, /singapore-phone-number, and /indonesia-phone-number list current availability.

Step-by-Step: Verifying Grab or Gojek

Have the app installed and the signup screen open before renting the number, since the activation window on TempNumber.me is 10 to 20 minutes and Grab's code timer is short.

  • Open Grab or Gojek to the registration screen. Grab asks for the number first; Gojek asks for the number, then name and email.
  • On TempNumber.me, choose Grab or Gojek as the service and the country. Take a private number; Grab tracks number reuse and a shared number is more likely to have been registered before.
  • Set the app's country selector to match and enter the number without the leading zero.
  • Request the code. Grab sends a 6-digit OTP; Gojek sends a 4-digit code and may offer a WhatsApp or missed-call alternative. Codes normally appear in the dashboard within 5 to 30 seconds.
  • Enter the code, complete the name and email fields, and add a payment card or leave it on cash.
  • Before the window closes, open Settings and add an email and, for Grab, link a Google or Facebook login. That is your fallback for the re-verification problem below.

The Re-Verification Problem

Grab and Gojek treat the phone number as the account key and re-send an OTP whenever you log in on a new device, reinstall the app, clear its data, or in some cases after a long period of inactivity. If the temp number has expired by then, the code goes to a number you no longer control, and the login stops. Grab's support process for a lost number asks for the last trip details and can take days; Gojek's asks for ID matching the account, which a temp-number account will not have.

There are three ways to handle this. The cheapest is to stay logged in on one device and never clear the app. The safer one is to rent the number rather than take a single activation, so it is still live for the trip or for the months you will use the account. The best one is to change the account's phone number, from inside the app, to a number you keep, once you have one, since both apps allow a number change from the profile screen with a code sent to the new number.

Grab specifically may lock an account it believes has changed hands, which can happen when the app is reinstalled on a new device and the OTP fails repeatedly. Do not hammer the resend button; it makes the lock more likely.

If the Code Does Not Arrive

Wait out the resend timer, which is 60 seconds on Grab, and try once more. Gojek offers a WhatsApp code and a missed-call verification on some builds; the missed call will not work on a receive-only SMS number, but the WhatsApp option will if the number is on WhatsApp, which a fresh temp number is not. Stick to SMS.

If nothing arrives inside the activation window, cancel the activation in the dashboard and pick a different country rather than another number in the same one; a country-level delivery problem usually affects the whole pool. Credits for a failed activation are handled case by case; write to support@tempnumber.me with the number, service, and time.

Why Not a Public Inbox Number

Grab is one of the apps where public shared inbox numbers fail most consistently. The Singapore and Malaysian numbers listed on those sites have been registered on Grab many times, and Grab either refuses the number outright or flags the new account and asks for ID on the first ride. You also cannot re-verify later, because the same number is being used by whoever visits the site that day.

A private TempNumber.me number is yours for the window, on a carrier range Grab and Gojek both accept, and can be rented for as long as the account needs re-verification. That is the difference between an account that takes a ride and one that gets stuck at the login screen.

Conclusion

A TempNumber.me number from Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, or Indonesia gets a Grab account through signup, and an Indonesian or Singaporean one does the same for Gojek. Rides, food, and parcels work with a card or cash; the GrabPay and GoPay wallets do not, because they check a national ID. Rent the number for as long as you will need to log in again, or move the account to a number you keep, and the account stays usable.
