What TikTok Shop Onboarding Asks For

TikTok Shop is separate from a normal TikTok account. Seller Center at seller.tiktok.com (or the regional variants such as seller-us.tiktok.com and seller-uk.tiktok.com) has its own registration, and it starts with a phone or email plus an SMS OTP. Affiliates onboard through the Creator Center inside the TikTok app, and the affiliate application also sends an OTP to a phone.

Both flows check the number's country against the market you selected. TikTok Shop is region-locked: a US shop sells to US buyers with US fulfilment, a UK shop to UK buyers, and each Southeast Asian shop to its own country. A phone from outside the region is either rejected at the OTP step or accepted and then flagged during the review that follows.

Seller vs Affiliate Onboarding

Seller onboarding is the heavier of the two. After the phone OTP, Seller Center asks for a business type (individual or company), an identity document, a registered address in the shop region, a tax ID, and a bank account in the region for payouts. The phone is checked at the start and again when the shop is approved and when payout details are added.

Affiliate onboarding is lighter. The requirements are a TikTok account meeting the follower threshold for the region (1,000 followers in the US, with the number varying elsewhere), an age check, and a phone OTP. Affiliates do not need a tax ID at signup, though payouts still require one later. The phone here is mainly a signup gate and a login confirmation.

For affiliates, a single TempNumber.me activation is usually enough. For sellers, take a rental so the same number is available for the approval-stage and payout-stage OTPs, and use the rental days to move the shop to a persistent number.

Which Numbers Match Which Shop Markets

TikTok Shop's region check expects the phone to match the market exactly. The list below maps markets to the TempNumber.me country to select.

  • TikTok Shop US: United States mobile number (+1). TikTok rejects US VoIP ranges, so select a mobile number from T-Mobile, Verizon, or AT&T ranges.
  • TikTok Shop UK: United Kingdom mobile number (+44) from EE, O2, Vodafone, or Three ranges.
  • TikTok Shop Indonesia: Indonesia (+62), Telkomsel, Indosat, or XL ranges. Indonesia also requires a local KTP identity document for sellers.

  • TikTok Shop Thailand: Thailand (+66), AIS, DTAC, or True ranges.
  • TikTok Shop Vietnam: Vietnam (+84), Viettel, Vinaphone, or Mobifone ranges.
  • TikTok Shop Philippines: Philippines (+63), Globe or Smart ranges.
  • TikTok Shop Singapore: Singapore (+65), Singtel, StarHub, or M1 ranges.

Step-by-Step: Passing the Onboarding OTP

Fill in the Seller Center or Creator Center form up to the phone field first, then select the number. The activation window on TempNumber.me is 10 to 20 minutes, and TikTok's OTP is valid for 5 minutes once sent.

  • Open Seller Center for your market (or the affiliate application in the app) and choose Sign up with phone. Select the market country in the dropdown.
  • On TempNumber.me, select TikTok as the service and the country from the list above. Pick a private number; TikTok Shop limits each phone to one seller account and a shared number may already be attached to one.
  • Enter the local part of the number in Seller Center and click Send code. Watch the dashboard. The OTP arrives within a minute on most attempts.
  • Enter the 6-digit code within 5 minutes. If it has expired, click Resend once; a third request usually triggers a cooldown of 24 hours on that number.
  • Once inside, complete the business information pages. Do not close the activation or let the rental lapse until the shop status shows Approved, because approval sends a confirmation OTP to the same number.

The OTP Window and Reachability

TikTok checks that the number is reachable at the moment the OTP is sent, and it sends OTPs at several points, not only at signup. Approval, first payout setup, adding a warehouse address, and any login from a new device each send a code. A number that was live at signup but has since expired fails all of these.

This is the difference between an activation and a rental on TempNumber.me. An activation covers one OTP inside a 10 to 20 minute window. A temp number gets you past the OTP and into the form. It does not make a shop in a region where you have no address, tax ID, or bank account approvable. Applications with a matching phone but mismatched documents are rejected in review, and the phone is then blocked from re-applying.

Affiliates have a lower bar, but payouts still require a tax form (W-9 or W-8BEN in the US) and a payment method in the region. Plan for that before relying on affiliate income.

Move to a Persistent Number After Onboarding

TikTok Shop periodically re-verifies the phone on active shops, and it sends order alerts, policy notices, and login codes to it. A shop whose phone bounces or never responds to a re-verification OTP can be put into a restricted state, and repeated failures lead to suspension. Sellers have reported this happening weeks after onboarding when a temp number went back into the pool.

While the TempNumber.me rental is still active, open Seller Center, go to My Account, Account Settings, and change the phone to a persistent number in the same region. TikTok sends a code to the old number to confirm the change, which is why this must happen before expiry. Enable the authenticator app option under Security at the same time so login confirmations do not depend on SMS.

Affiliates should do the same in the TikTok app under Settings and privacy, Account, Phone number. The follower count and the affiliate status stay with the account; only the contact number changes.
