+7 7XX vs +7 9XX: Kazakhstan and Russia Share a Country Code

Kazakhstan is the only country besides Russia that uses +7, a holdover from the Soviet numbering plan. The two national ranges do not overlap. Kazakh mobile numbers occupy +7 7XX (the 700 to 778 block); Russian mobile numbers occupy +7 9XX. A number that starts +7 70, +7 74, +7 77 is Kazakh. A number that starts +7 90 through +7 99 is Russian.

This matters for verification. Since 2022 a growing list of services either reject Russian numbers outright or route them to stricter checks. Most of those filters key on the 9XX mobile block or on a country field set to Russia, not on the +7 code itself. A +7 7XX number with the country set to Kazakhstan passes where a +7 9XX number does not. That is the main reason non-residents look for a Kazakh number rather than a Russian one.

  • Kcell / Activ— prefixes 700, 701, 702, 775, 776, 778. Kcell is the largest mobile operator in Kazakhstan by subscribers and is majority-owned by Kazakhtelecom. Activ is its prepaid consumer brand, so numbers marketed as Activ and Kcell sit on the same network and are treated identically by verification systems.
  • Beeline Kazakhstan— prefixes 705, 771, 776, 777. Operated by QazaqTelecom (formerly VEON's Kazakh subsidiary), Beeline is the second-largest carrier and the strongest in Almaty and the southern regions.
  • Tele2 / Altel— prefixes 707, 708, 747 (Tele2) and 700, 708 (Altel). The two brands merged into a single operator, Mobile Telecom-Service, which was acquired by Power International Holding from Kazakhtelecom in 2024. Altel was the first 4G network in the country.
  • Local dialling format— inside Kazakhstan the trunk prefix is 8, so a number written as 8 (701) 234 56 78 on a local site is +7 701 234 56 78 internationally. Enter it on verification forms as 701 234 56 78 with Kazakhstan (+7) selected in the dropdown.

Kazakh Services That Work with These Numbers

Two things to know before choosing a Kazakhstan number. Telegram is the dominant messenger in the country, ahead of WhatsApp in daily use, and both accept +7 7XX ranges. And the two largest Kazakh platforms, Kaspi.kz and eGov.kz, do not work with any temporary number: both require a 12-digit IIN (individual identification number) and biometric face verification tied to a state identity record. A temporary number covers classifieds, ride and delivery apps, and messenger sign-ups. It does not cover banking or government services.

  • Kolesa.kz— the national car classifieds site, where nearly all private vehicle sales in Kazakhstan are listed. Posting an ad and contacting a seller through the app require a verified Kazakh mobile number.
  • Krisha.kz— the property listings platform run by the same group as Kolesa. Rental and sale listings, landlord contact, and account creation all use SMS verification to a +7 7XX number.
  • Yandex Go Kazakhstan— the main taxi and courier app in Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, and most regional cities. Account registration sends an SMS code; a Kazakh number avoids the foreign-number surcharge and payment restrictions that apply to some non-local accounts.
  • Glovo Kazakhstan— food and grocery delivery in Almaty and Astana. Registration is SMS-verified.
  • Messaging — Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal
  • Social media — Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, TikTok
  • Google services — Gmail, Google Account, YouTube
  • Finance— PayPal, Wise, Revolut. Not Kaspi.kz, Halyk Bank, or any Kazakh bank app that requires IIN and biometric onboarding.
  • Gaming and entertainment — Discord, Steam, Spotify

How to Use a Kazakhstan Phone Number for Verification

  1. Go to TempNumber.me — Kazakhstan to see available +7 7XX numbers.
  2. Copy a number. Kazakh mobile numbers in international format are +7 followed by 10 digits starting with 7 (e.g., +7 701 XXX XX XX for Kcell, +7 777 XXX XX XX for Beeline, +7 707 XXX XX XX for Tele2).
  3. Enter the number into the verification field. Select Kazakhstan (+7) from the country dropdown, not Russia (+7).
  4. Return to the number page on TempNumber.me. The SMS code will arrive within 15-45 seconds.
  5. Copy the code and complete your verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a temporary Kazakhstan phone number?

A +7 virtual number in a Kazakh mobile range that receives SMS verification codes without a Kazakh SIM card or residency. Numbers use Kcell (Activ), Beeline Kazakhstan, or Tele2/Altel carrier ranges. Kazakh mobile numbers are 10 digits after the +7 country code and always start with 7: +7 7XX XXX XX XX. In local format the number is dialled as 8 7XX XXX XX XX.

How is a Kazakhstan +7 number different from a Russian +7 number?

Kazakhstan and Russia share the +7 country code, but their mobile ranges do not overlap. Kazakh mobiles sit in +7 7XX (700 to 778), Russian mobiles sit in +7 9XX. Verification systems that block Russian numbers usually filter on the 9XX range, so a +7 7XX number from Kazakhstan is accepted on many services that reject +7 9XX. When a country dropdown lists Kazakhstan separately from Russia, select Kazakhstan.

Which Kazakh services work with a temp +7 7XX number?

Kolesa.kz (car classifieds), Krisha.kz (property listings), Yandex Go Kazakhstan (taxi and delivery), Glovo Kazakhstan (food delivery), Telegram, WhatsApp, and global services including Google, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Kaspi.kz and eGov.kz are not covered: both require a national IIN and biometric identity verification, which a temporary number cannot provide.

Do Kazakhstan numbers work for Telegram verification?

Yes. Telegram is the most used messenger in Kazakhstan, and +7 7XX numbers are a standard registration range for it. Telegram sends the code by SMS to fresh numbers, so it arrives on the TempNumber.me number page within 15 to 45 seconds. Select Kazakhstan (+7) in the Telegram country picker rather than Russia, otherwise the app expects a 9XX number and may reject the input.
