OTP Number: Receive One-Time Passwords Online
A receive-only number from a real mobile-carrier range in India, Southeast Asia, the US, the UK, or one of 190+ other countries. The OTP appears on a web page in 15-45 seconds. Priced per activation.
What an OTP Number Is
An OTP number is a phone number you use to receive a one-time password. The OTP is the code: the 4, 6, or 8 digits a service generates when you sign up or log in and sends by SMS. The number is what receives it. If you do not want to give an app your personal mobile, or the app insists on a number from a country where you have no SIM, an OTP number from TempNumber.me takes the SMS instead and shows the code in your browser.
TempNumber.me numbers sit in ranges owned by national mobile carriers: Jio, Airtel, and Vi in India; Globe and Smart in the Philippines; Telkomsel and Indosat in Indonesia; T-Mobile and AT&T in the US; EE and O2 in the UK. They are not VoIP numbers, which is what lets them pass the carrier check WhatsApp, Telegram, and Google run before sending a code. You create an account, add credit, choose a country, select a number, and read the OTP on the number page. How the code itself is generated and why it expires is covered in SMS OTP explained.
What an OTP Number Does and Does Not Do
- Receives SMS. Any text message sent to the number, including the OTP, is captured and displayed on the number page.
- Does not send SMS.If a service asks you to text a keyword to a short code to verify, an OTP number cannot do it. Choose the “send me a code” option instead.
- Does not take calls. Voice OTP, where a robot reads the digits over a call, is not supported. Pick SMS delivery when the form offers both.
- Is not linked to your identity. This is the point for app sign-ups, and the reason it does not work for banking. Indian bank and UPI OTPs, and most bank OTPs elsewhere, go only to a SIM registered against your verified ID. A temporary number cannot be enrolled with a bank, and TempNumber.me is not for that use.
- Expires. Shared activations close after their window. Private rentals end on a date. Either way the number goes back to the pool for other customers.
Shared vs Private OTP Numbers
- Shared OTP numbers— Listed on the country page for anyone to use. Every SMS that arrives is visible to any TempNumber.me user viewing that number, and someone may already have registered the same app on it. Lowest cost per activation. Right for a one-off sign-up where you enter the OTP the moment it lands and do not need the number again.
- Premium private OTP numbers— Assigned to you alone for the rental period. Nobody else sees the code, and the number has not been cycled through repeated registrations on the same service, so apps like WhatsApp and Telegram accept it more readily. Right for an account you intend to keep for a while. When the rental ends the number still returns to the pool, so set a recovery email or app-based 2FA before it does.
The Activation Window
When you select a shared number, an activation opens. It stays open for a fixed window, usually 10 to 20 minutes depending on the country and service. The OTP has to arrive inside it. Most do: the typical gap between pressing “send code” and the SMS appearing on the page is 15-45 seconds. If the service never sends, or sends after the window closes, the activation is closed and you can report it to support@tempnumber.me for credit review. If a code arrives but the app rejects it, request a fresh code while the activation is still open rather than starting a new one. Premium private rentals do not have a per-OTP window; they receive as many codes as the service sends for the whole rental period.
Which Country to Choose for OTP Delivery
Delivery speed and acceptance depend on whether the app checks the number’s country. Apps built for one market often refuse foreign codes; global apps care about the carrier range, not the flag.
- India (+91)— Jio, Airtel, and Vi ranges. Needed for Flipkart, Meesho, Swiggy, Zomato, Ola, JioCinema, and Hotstar, which reject non-Indian numbers. Also works for WhatsApp, where India is the largest user base.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an OTP and an OTP number?
The OTP is the code: a 4 to 8 digit one-time password a service generates and sends by SMS. The OTP number is the phone number that receives it. When people search for an OTP number they want a number to type into a sign-up form so the code lands somewhere they can read it. TempNumber.me provides those numbers from carrier ranges in 198 countries and shows the SMS in the browser. The wider category of receive-only numbers is on the virtual SMS number page.
Can I receive bank or UPI OTPs on a temporary OTP number?
No. Indian banks, UPI apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm, and most banks elsewhere send OTPs only to the mobile number registered against your verified identity, and UPI also binds the SIM to the device. A temporary number is not linked to your identity and cannot be registered with a bank. Use TempNumber.me for app sign-ups, messaging, social, marketplace, and delivery accounts, not for banking or payment authorisation.
How long does an OTP number stay active?
A shared-number activation is open for a fixed window, typically 10 to 20 minutes depending on the country and service. The OTP has to arrive inside that window; if nothing is received before it closes, the activation closes and you can report the delivery failure to support@tempnumber.me for case-by-case credit review. Premium private numbers are rented for a longer period and receive any number of OTPs during it. In both cases the number returns to the pool afterwards.
Which country OTP number works best for Indian and Southeast Asian apps?
For apps built for the Indian market, such as Flipkart, Swiggy, Zomato, and Meesho, an India (+91) number on a Jio, Airtel, or Vi range is the only reliable choice, since those apps often reject foreign codes. For Shopee, Lazada, Grab, and Gojek, use the country the app is being registered in: Philippines (+63), Indonesia (+62), Malaysia (+60), or Vietnam (+84). For WhatsApp, Telegram, Google, Instagram, and other global services, a US (+1) or UK (+44) number delivers the OTP fastest.
